Scholarships in the Philippines offered by Government 2022/2023

Hello Everyone, welcome to ScholarshipsPH.com. In this post, I’ll show Government Scholarships in Philippines, as well as the benefits, eligibility requirements, and application process.

Scholarships are available from several government agencies for Filipino high school graduates and college students.

In August 2017, President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 10931, often known as the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.

Under the law, all undergraduate students of state universities and colleges, as well as Filipino learners enrolled in any technical-vocational education and training program registered with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, are entitled to free tuition and miscellaneous fees.

Aside from that, several government agencies grant Scholarships in Philippines to Filipino undergraduate students. Here are a few examples:

Scholarships in the Philippines

Department of Science and Technology (DOST)

The DOST offers three types of scholarships: merit, Science and Technology Scholarship Act (RA 7687), and Fast-Tracked Science and Technology Scholarship Act (RA 10612).

Students who have a strong aptitude in science and mathematics and want to pursue careers in science and technology can apply under the merit type. The following are the details of each program:

S&T undergraduate Scholarships

  • The deadline for applications is August 28, 2021. (closed already, but this opens every school year)
  • Types: RA 7687, Merit
  • Filipino college students who are either in the top 5% of their non-STEM strand senior high school graduating class or in the top 5% of their STEM strand senior high school graduating class are eligible.
  • Exam requirement: Should be able to pass the S&T scholarship test
  • Tuition is worth P40,000 per year, including a P10,000 book allowance, a P7,000 monthly housing allowance, a P10,000 thesis allowance, and a P1,000 graduation clothing stipend. All scholars also get a group health and accident insurance premium, as well as a round-trip economy cost for students studying beyond their home provinces.

Junior-level science scholarships (JLSS)

  • The deadline for applications is October 29, 2021. (closed already, but this opens every school year)
  • Merit, RA 7687, and RA 10612
  • Students who are in their third year of college who are pursuing a degree in science or technology and have a general weighted average of at least 83 percent or its equivalent, as well as no conditional or failing grades in their first two years of college, are eligible.
  • Exam requirement: The Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS) test must be passed.
  • Tuition is worth P40,000 per year, including a P10,000 book allowance, a P7,000 monthly housing allowance, a P10,000 thesis allowance, and a P1,000 graduation clothing stipend. All scholars also get a group health and accident insurance premium, as well as a round-trip economy fare for students studying outside their home provinces.

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA)

Education for Development Scholarship Program

  • Eligible students: Qualified dependents of active OWWA members who plan to participate in a four- or five-year bachelor program at any of their choice schools or institutions. Applicants must also have an 80 percent weighted average in high school and be in the top 20% of their graduating class.
  • Exam requirement: Must pass qualifying examination conducted by the DOST and belong to top 400 examination passers
  • Privileges: P60,000 per school year

OFW Dependent Scholarship Program

  • Students who are incoming freshmen must be the child of an active OWWA member or a sibling of an OWWA member who is single and not more than 21 years old, and those who are already enrolled or have been enrolled in college must not be more than 30 years old. Applicants should not have previously received any other scholarship awards.
  • Exam requirement: Must pass the OWWA regional welfare offices’ entrance examination conducted by a state institution or university.
  • Benefits: P20,000 each school year in educational support

Educational Livelihood Assistance Program

  • Eligible Students: Dependents of OFWs who were active OWWA members at the time of death, including convicted OFWs facing the death sentence in their home country. A scholarship grant is provided to only one kid, generally the eldest child of a member-OFW.
  • Exam requirement: None
  • Privileges: Allowance award of P5,000 for elementary school students, P8,000 for high school students, and P10,000 for college students. There is also a P15,000 stipend package available.

Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)

Fisheries industry leaders grant

  • The deadline for applications is September 15, 2021. (closed already, Date will be announced soon)
  • Filipino high school graduates or graduating students who rank in the top 10 percent of their graduating class and have a general weighted average of at least 80% are eligible.
  • Exam requirement: A qualifying examination must be passed.
  • Tuition and other school fees, except dormitory fees, as required by the curriculum, monthly stipend of P4,000; practicum support of P3,000; book allowance of P2,000; thesis support of P7,000; graduation support of P1,500

Fisherfolk children educational grant

  • The deadline for applications is September 15, 2021. (closed already, Date will be announced soon)
  • Filipino senior high school graduates or graduating students whose parents or guardians are registered fishermen are eligible; they must also have a GWA of at least 80%.
  • Exam requirement: A qualifying examination must be passed.
  • Privileges: Tuition and other school fees as necessary by the curriculum, except dormitory fees/rent, a monthly stipend of P4,000, on-the-job training/practicum support of P3,000, book allowance of P2,000, thesis support of P7,000, and graduation support of P1,500.

Fisheries Scholarship Program for Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples

  • The deadline for applications is September 15, 2021. (closed already, Date will be announced soon)
  • Filipino high school graduates or graduating students whose parents or guardians are members of a tribe recognized by the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples are eligible to participate.
  • Exam requirement: A qualifying examination must be passed.
  • Privileges: Tuition and other school costs as necessary by the program, except dormitory fee/rental; P4,000 monthly stipend; P3,000 on-the-job training/practicum support; P2,000 book allowance; P7,000 thesis support; P1,500 graduation support

Government Service Insurance System (GSIS)

GSIS educational subsidy program

  • The deadline for applications is September 10, 2021.
  • Dependents of active GSIS members who are in college and do not receive any other scholarship grants are eligible. Members of the GSIS should have a salary grade of 24 or below, and no unpaid or underpaid GSIS loans for more than three months.
  • Exam requirement: None
  • Privileges: Tuition and miscellaneous fees not exceeding P40,000 per academic year, monthly stipend worth P3,000, and a monetary incentive of P20,000 for those who graduate cum laude, P30,000 for magna cum laude, and P50,000 for summa cum laude

CHED Scholarship (Commission on Higher Education)

The Commission on Higher Education also offers merit-based scholarships, however the application process for the academic year 2021-2022 is already ended. This URL may be saved for future use.
