Congratulations to all Scholarship applicants from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao! The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) has announced that the application date for the Bangsamoro Assistance for Science Education (BASE) and BASE-MERIT Scholarship for the school year 2023-2024 has been extended from February 24, 2023 to March 30, 2023.

According to the ministry’s Facebook announcement, they extended the application period to give students more time to apply for the program and to assure that prospective Bangsamoro students in the area would have access to applications for MOST educational cash grants.

Also, MOST encourages all incoming first-year college students from the Bangsamoro region to participate in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and other highly specialized courses. This initiative encouraged Bangsamoro youth to pursue careers in science and technology that would be rewarding for the rest of their life. It also aims to maintain an ongoing supply of qualified S&T people resources on available, directing the sector toward growth and economic advancement.

Who can Apply for BASE AND BASE-MERIT scholarship?

According to MOST, the BANGSAMORO ASSISTANCE FOR SCIENCE EDUCATION (BASE) is given to a deserving senior high school graduate student in order for him/her to pursue higher study or training in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Interested applicants must be:

1. Natural-born Filipino citizen and a resident of BARMM;
2. Member of the STEM strand Senior High School graduating class with 85% GWA during the Grade 12 of 1st semester;
3. For Non-STEM strand senior high school graduating class; 90% GWA during the Grade 12 of 1st semester;
4. Not a recipient of other scholarship programs;
5. Of good moral character and in good health;
6. Do not have any post-secondary or undergraduate units;
7. Passed the BASE qualifying examination; and
8. Must be enrolled in the BASE S&T
9. priority courses.

Furthermore, the BANGSAMORO ASSISTANCE FOR SCIENCE EDUCATION- MERIT is given to students who have a strong aptitude for science and mathematics and want to pursue highly technical courses in science and technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Interested applicants must be:

1. Natural-born Filipino citizen and a resident of BARMM;
2. Member of the STEM strand Senior High School graduating class with 85% GWA during the Grade 12 of 1st semester;
3. For Non-STEM strand senior high school graduating class; 90% GWA during the Grade 12 of 1st semester;
4. Not a recipient of other scholarship programs;
5. Of good moral character and in good health;
6. Do not have any post-secondary or undergraduate units;
7. Passed the BASE-MERIT qualifying examination; and
8. Must be enrolled in the BASE-Merit S&T priority courses.

Requirements

All applicants must prepare the following documents:

• Accomplished downloadable BASE Application Form; and
• BASE-MERIT Application Form.

What schools may the scholars join?

According to MOST, grantees must enroll in any of the BASE and BASE-MERIT-identified institutions, such as;

• The University of the Philippines;
• State Universities and Colleges (SUC);
• Private higher education institutions which are recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as Center of Excellence/Center of Development (COE/COD);
• Institutions with Level II accreditation from the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP) for the S&T program he/she intends to enroll in.

Scholarship Benefits

Eligible BASE scholarship recipients will receive a monthly cash assistance of up to (Php 8,000.00). The money will be deposited into the awardee’s bank account on the last week of each month starting with the first semester of the academic year. The grantee will get a total of Eighty Thousand Pesos (Php 80,000.00) per year to cover the following expenses:

1. School Fees – Tuition and other school fees.
2. Book Allowance -For prescribed textbooks and essential school supplies to be released as outright grant;
3. Transportation Expenses
4. Clothing Allowance– The cost of Physical Education and school uniform; and
5. Monthly Living Allowance

Meanwhile, grantees of the BASE-MERIT scholarship would be eligible to monthly cash assistance in the amount of (Php 20,000.00). Every final week of the month, starting with the first semester of the school year, the money will be deposited into the grantee’s bank account. The grantee will receive a total of two hundred thousand pesos (P200,000.00) per year to cover the following expenses:

1. School Fees – Tuition and other school fees.
2. Book Allowance – For prescribed textbooks and essential school supplies to be released as outright grant;
3. Transportation Expenses
4. Clothing Allowance– The cost of Physical Education and school uniform; and
5. Monthly Living Allowance
